Water deeply, not daily: Frequent light watering encourages shallow roots. Deep watering trains the roots down, which is exactly what you want in heat.
The tuna can test: A practical way to check irrigation is the tuna can test. Place a tin can on the lawn while you water. Measure how long it takes to collect about 25 mm of water. Aim to deliver that amount in one or two deep watering sessions per week, rather than daily sprinkles. Adjust for rainfall and heat, but keep the principle the same.
