PPC CEMENT

DIRECTIONS

Cut your scrap wood to create a rectangle shape – two smaller pieces for the ends and three long pieces for the bottom and sides . You could work on 20x10cm for the long edges and bottom , and 7x10cm for the ends . Just make sure the cups you choose will fit snugly into the shape . Use wood glue to make your box , as this allows the box to hold together while needed , but easily be dissembled when you are done . Use clamps to secure the mould while the glue dries for an hour or so . To prevent the concrete from sticking to the wood , smear a thin layer of Vaseline on the inside of the box , getting every little part covered . Mix your cement using a ratio of 1 part cement to 2 parts sand , to a cake batter consistency . Pour some of the concrete into the mould , allowing room for the cups or glasses . Set the tumblers or cups into the concrete , making sure they are absolutely level , then use masking tape to hold them in place . Pour in more concrete until it reaches the height that you want . Make sure the widest parts of the glasses are submerged in the concrete to hold them securely . Leave to cure for around 24 hours , then use a craft knife to remove the box , and gently clean the cups or glasses . Use some masking tape to mask off a line and paint the bottom section with metallic copper paint , or any paint of your choice . Finally , add a piece of felt to the bottom to prevent your organiser from scratching the surface it sits on .

TIP : To make a handy cutlery holder for the kitchen or for entertaining , simply amend the design to the size you prefer , using 3 cups instead .
