Beneficial flies
The Robber Fly is also known as “ the assassin fly ”, due to being highly predatory . They are beneficial to your garden because they prey on various insects , including other flies , ants and grasshoppers .
Lacewings feast on aphids , as well
as spider mites , whiteflies , small caterpillars and beetle larvae .
The foes you want to repel aphids
Aphids are those horrible softbodied little insects that use their piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on plant sap . They live in colonies on the undersides of tender stems and leaves and can turn your leaves yellow and cause real damage to leaves , flowers and fruit . They feed on many species of potential host vegetable plants , including tomatoes , lettuce , kale , and cabbage .
