MOVING DAY
Preferably , get your cat used to its travel carrier long before the move . Place a familiar soft blanket inside and let the cat spend short periods in it with a treat or favourite toy . On moving day , the cat and the travel carrier should be placed in a room ( preferably already empty , such as a bathroom ) early in the day , before strangers arrive and the commotion begins . Ensure all windows are closed . Put a notice on the door to inform everyone that a cat is inside and the door should remain closed . Provide drinking water , and if you are not leaving too early , you
can also feed your cat . Place a litter box in the room as well .
If you are concerned that your cat may become too restless in one room or that someone might accidentally let it out , it is advisable to board the cat at a cattery for a day or two while the packing and loading take place .
Upon arriving at the new house , keep the cat in its carrier until a room is set up to serve as a safe haven . Place familiar items such as its bed , scratching post , and toys in the room . Provide a litter box , food , and water . Leave a used clothing item that smells like you and the old house in the room .
All windows and doors should be kept closed . The cat can then be released into the room . Close the door if possible to prevent anyone from accidentally letting the cat out . Also ,
