THE BEER BUZZ

St . George ' s has done more than revamp is brand . It ' s also showing a knack for coming up with fresh ideas to anchor itself in the community . Now that its rooftop beehive project that it launched in 2014 has grown into a full sixhive apiary , some of the generated honey ended up in Preston Town Brewing ' s ( PTB ) small-batch Black Feet IPA .
" I was keen to offer our surplus honey to a local small independent business so I chose Priest Town Brewing as they produce local beers which are all named according to Preston ' s history , such as the beer they have produced with our honey — Black Feet , based on the story of Henry Hunt , a former MP of Preston ," explained Ryan Peacock , the center ' s operations manager , when the brew was released .
Given the apiary ' s productivity , St . Georges should have plenty more honey to share once the warm weather returns — during the active months , each hive can hold anywhere from 50,000 to 60,000 bees .
According to PTB ' s Ian Stezaker , Black Feet was named for the mechanics and mill men of the 1800s whose votes helped orator Henry Hunt , who campaigned for universal suffrage , to become the town ' s MP .
