MEET Dave Powers
Dave grew up in Southern California, and while he owned an 18’
catamaran when he was younger, it wasn’t until later that he became
keenly enthusiastic about sailing. In 1993, a coworker invited him to
race on a Wednesday night Sunset Series race, and he was hooked.
Since then he has owned a couple of sailboats and has enjoyed racing,
especially ocean competitions. In total with racing and deliveries, he
has sailed from San Francisco to Panama on the West Coast. He has
been through the Panama Canal twice - once in each direction - and has
crisscrossed the Caribbean. On the East Coast, he has made a Bermuda
race and a delivery on a Hylas from Charleston to the BVIs.
In 2014, Dave joined the Denison Yacht Sales team, where he naturally
specializes in sailboats. Prior to Denison, he worked with Hylas Yachts
for 15 years, first with rigging, plumbing and electrical systems during
more than 50 new yacht commissionings; and he conducted dozens of
yacht system and sailing orientations for new Hylas owners. He enjoys
selling the new sailboats at boat shows, and he sold the first Hylas 70.
He now lives in Marina del Rey, where he ran his own rigging and
electrical service business for over 15 years. He and his wife have two
adult daughters and five grandchildren. When not on a sailboat he can
be seen pedaling his road bike; and he enjoys reading to relax.
