MEET Charles Blickle
Charles has been involved in boating all his life. As a child he lived and cruised with his family
aboard several yachts ranging in size from 38’ to 112’. In the 1950s, his father built a resort/
marina at the mouth of the Connecticut River on the Long Island Sound called Terra Mar, where
the family spent a great deal of time.
The Blickle family moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1960. Charles’ first boat was a 13’ Boston Whaler
when he was 11. He spent most of his youth enjoying fast boats, water skiing, and fishing in Fort
Lauderdale. Charles also has enjoyed following powerboat racing all of his life.
In the early 1960s, Charles’ father started a yacht brokerage company in Fort Lauderdale and then
co-founded Bradford Marine in 1966. Charles worked there, as a teenager, in the stock room and
drove the parts truck. In 1975, Charles started Bradford Coachworks, building and marketing
custom stretch limousines, but he sold the business in 1980 to join his father at Bradford Marine
and Bradford Yacht Sales.
He devoted his time to learning the brokerage business from some of the best in the business,
later becoming president of Bradford Yacht Sales for several years, focusing on both new boat
sales and brokerage. Charles was involved with several new boat lines including Alucraft as U.S.
reps, and Ocean Alexander, Posillipo and Vantare’ Yachts, all as East Coast reps. In 1990, Bradford
Yacht Sales was sold and he stayed on with the company as a yacht broker.
Since 2005 he has put his yacht brokerage talents and industry expertise to good use at both
Merrill-Stevens Yachts and The Marine Group and has sold powerboats ranging from small hard-
bottom inflatables to 115’ megayachts. He has traveled to the Mediterranean for new builds, boat
shows and to purchase yachts for clients, and has inspected new boats while under construction
in Asia and the Far East.
As the current world and yacht brokerage business evolved, Charles decided to join the Denison
