THE CHOICE TO STEP DOWN AS CEO

I recently made a hard decision .
I decided to replace myself as the CEO of Tulip Media . The day it happened , I walked into a meeting with all of the company leaders , looked them in the eyes , put my shareholder hat on , and told them that they needed a new CEO . After a lot of discussion , I knew , and they did as well , that my skill set and focus had become a bottleneck and was impeding our growth . The company had matured so much that it needed a CEO with a different skill set than what I had . We needed a CEO who thrived at continuing to grow a maturing company whereas my skills and interests were better suited for startups .
There are times during a company ’ s evolution when a CEO can slow down the company rather than driving its growth . It commonly happens in the early stages of a new business when the entrepreneur who started the company has a difficult time delegating to others . The next challenge in a business ’ s
