WELCOME TO
T
Time is often marked by change .
While our clocks and calendars keep track of time , we become more aware of the hours , days , months , and years that have passed when we notice that people , environments , and circumstances have changed . Change marks our time , and it is one thing we have come to always expect as humans .
The past couple of years have been an anomaly , filled with widespread change . Arguably , it feels like the world has changed more in the past few months than it has in several decades .
We ’ ve spent a couple of years learning to live through a global pandemic , learning to adapt socially and within our businesses . We were thrust into the unknown and forced to find a sense of familiarity in a transformed world . And just as we have started to learn how to live with COVID-19 and move on from it , we are greeted with a new conflict , a conflict unlike any we have seen in decades : Russia ’ s invasion of Ukraine .
The entire world has been shaken , not once , but twice , and each of us is being affected in different ways . The events in Ukraine are incredibly disheartening , and as I watch it unfold from afar , I can ’ t help but grimace as it reminds me of my family ’ s war-stricken roots .
I grew up with two Dutch parents who lived through World War II before immigrating to Canada . From a young age , I witnessed how the war had affected both my family and our day-to-day life . Because of that , it was hard to watch when Russia invaded Ukraine . I was familiar with how it felt to be invaded when it wasn ’ t what was asked for , nor what was deserved .
But without fail , each time our world has been thrown into a new darkness , it has been touching to see the outpouring of love that results — like the world buying all of Ukraine ’ s Airbnbs without the intention of actually visiting so they can directly support Ukrainians . At the time of writing this , my heart bleeds for the people of Ukraine . I desperately hope for peace in the world once again , sooner rather than later . I know everyone is going through a journey of their own , reflecting on what this means for us as individuals , families , and members of the human race . I ’ m truly grateful to be living in the part of the world that I am .
The world has been shaken by this act , but life does move on , the world does move forward , and everything does grow stronger .
As we move forward and reflect together , we will continue to be ever supporting of our Client-Partners , and together , building a brighter future .
