Planning Practically For Business Growth In
2021

After coming off what the history books will show as being one of the most transformative years that anyone in business has ever lived through , we ’ re onto a new year . We ’ re surviving the pandemic , we ’ re moving forward , and we ’ re looking to grow our companies once again .
When we look at our companies around year-end , a lot of us think of New Year ’ s resolutions and plans for the coming year . We sit back , take stock of what happened in the previous year , and make a forecast for the year to come . Although this is going to look very different as we transition from 2020 to 2021 , I invite you to take this opportunity to ask yourself , What is your plan for 2021 ?
I , for one , am very excited about what the upcoming year has in store for us . I think those of us who have successfully navigated the COVID pandemic are now eager to move past it and are truly excited for the future of our companies .
As we emerge from these turbulent times , I believe it ’ s important to take a practical approach to keeping our businesses on a path to growth , whether that growth be rapid , steady , or slow . Regardless of your situation , you should be putting a plan in place as we ring in this and every new year . It ’ s not something that ’ s cast in stone ( as we learned all too well last year ), because the winds of the market are changing all the time , and sometimes we need to course correct . However , you ’ d be remiss if you didn ’ t start the year with at least some sort of a plan .
HUNKERING DOWN FOR SUCCESS
At Tulip Media , the process that we follow is to create a “ painted picture .” Producing this document is our opportunity to talk as a team about what we want to see for our company in the coming year , from new services we will offer and changes to our marketing strategy to how much we anticipate we ’ ll have grown by a given date . It ’ s also an opportunity to dream a little bit and expand our thinking into some of the possibilities for where we could go .
When we consider what we want our revenues to look like in the coming year , we always ask ourselves , What are we going to do differently this year to make our revenues grow differently ?
In Jim Collins ’ s work Great by Choice , he talks about the 20-mile march . This concept can be traced back to the race to the South Pole , which took place back in 1911 . Essentially ,
