1. Mistakes are acceptable, common, and completely okay. You should stress this to your team so they do not become hesitant about taking risks and attention something new. Mistakes provide opportunities to asses, evaluate, develop, and most importantly make the necessary changes.

2. You need to be an expert yourself. In order to teach or train any one you must have a proficient understanding at the subject at hand. We all know this from experience that it is frustrating and difficult to learn from an individual that doesn’t seem to have a firm understanding of the subject. You will need to know how to answer any question that may be thrown at you and deal with various situations that may occur. To develop an expert you must be an expert.

3. Goals and expectation need to be set and clear. This will help to provide an end state and desired out come for your team. With clear goals and expectations individuals will understand what is it they are working towards and what for. This understanding will promote the initiative and limit the scope to what needs to be done and what is required.

4. An important part of training and teaching is that is should never truly stop. The process should begin immediately but not have any halts or pauses. A good manager continuously develops their team as well as themselves. The mentorship and developmental process should be mutual across the board in order to promote a shared understanding and to avoid outliers.

5. Most importantly you need to understand that it is a process that requires patience. Understanding that not every one will understand at first and it will take time to get the point across and to gain your desired end result. In the mean time you need to research what others have done to effectively teach and develop their teams. I can assure you there are plenty of successful methods and approaches to developing, teaching, and training.
