BARBARA DONLON BRADLEY (Cont.)
INTERVIEW
MFRW: When did you first think
about writing and what prompted
you to submit your first ms?
What genre is it?
BDB: I’ve been writing all my
life, just never thought about
doing it professionally. It took my
mother in law moving back home
to make me think I could do this
professionally. She paid for my
first year with RWA and my local
chapter. When the chapter did an
editing program, I submitted. I
was going to be out of town that
meeting and figured this was the perfect oppor-
tunity to see if I had what it took. I figured if
they didn’t like it I could slink away, never to be
seen again, but they loved it. I was told it was
raw and read like a screen play but it was
enough to make me want to write profession-
ally.

Would you like to write a different genre or sub
-genre than you do now?
Not really. I love science fiction and always
gravitate to that genre.
Do you feel humor is important in fiction and
why?
BDB: Very much. The world is dark enough and hu-
mor brightens it. As a reader, I want to laugh
and cry with the characters I fall in love with,
but not everyone can write humor. I find my-
self picking up books that have a good dose of
humor in them. I need to be in the right mood
to read a deep, dark book.
MFRW: Bubble baths or steamy showers? Ocean or
mountains? Puppies or kittens? Chocolate or
caramel?
Hmm, I love bubble baths but steamy showers
are great too. Ocean—I live near the coast and
love it. Kittens: my cat would be very angry at
me if I brought a puppy home. Chocolate, of
course.

Among your own books, do you have a favorite
book? Favorite hero or heroine?
I love Heather and Storm from my Vespian
Way series. In the series, I have several that are
my favorites, but as other authors have said it’s
the one I’m working on now that is my favorite
at the moment.
Thanks so much for talking with us.
