Tune Up Your Website for the New Year
With the new year just beginning, it’ s a good time to take a look at your author website. Hopefully you’ ve been updating your website all year, adding books and places where you’ ve guest blogged or perhaps places where you’ ve been interviewed. If you’ ve been keeping up with your website maintenance then this shouldn’ t be too big of a chore. If you haven’ t … well, let’ s look at the three ways you can tune up your website for the new year.
Have you listed all your books and their buy links? In the rush of a new release, it’ s possible to overlook a vendor. Not all vendors go live immediately, so you may think about going back later to add a link and forget. It happens. What vendors do you want to list on your website? Ideally, all of them! You never know where someone will want to buy

your book and by having all links available, you’ ll be able to capture more readers. Sure, you want them to buy directly from you( You do have a webstore, right? If not, let’ s talk!) or your publisher. However, you also don’ t want to lose readers who only buy from Amazon, or other vendors.
Are all your media appearances noted? You might be thinking that you don’ t have any media appearances, but you do. If you have guest blogged on someone else’ s site or done an interview, that’ s a media appearance. Make sure they’ re listed.
Put your best reviews forward. One of the best ways to make sure you don’ t miss a review is to set a Google Alert.(“ Your Pen Name” +“ Your Book Title” Keep the quotes around your name and your title.) Put the best
Contact Mary: reviews, or at least a pull quote or two, on each book’ s page, so your website visitors will know what your readers do— that your books are great! If you’ re ambitious, some of the next steps would be to review the look and feel of your website. Is it easy to navigate? Does it look dated? If you don’ t already have your own domain and webhosting, then that’ s something to take care of.( I can help!) Look at adding additional features, like a webstore, social media integration, or even a wiki for your series.
We set personal resolutions around the new year. This time, why don’ t you set the resolution to tune up your website? I’ m sure your readers will appreciate it, and you’ ll be happy with the increased sales.
