SEPTEMBER, 2019 THE RANCHER’S FAMILY By: Barbara White Daille The Plot: “Are you my new mommy?” She certainly hopes so… After a devastating loss, Cara Leon- etti’s dreams of a husband and children are on hold. But Cowboy Creek’s local matchmaker thinks otherwise! And Cara finds herself unexpectedly entangled in the day-to-day family chaos of widower Wes Daniels and his two small children. She’s falling hard, but the strong, silent rancher doesn’t trust in love. Can Cara put her own fears aside and show Wes that they’re stronger together? Reviews Welcome. An Excerpt “You sit here,” Mark told Cara. He patted the chair beside the bench. The same chair his mother had always sat in. Cara obligingly took her seat. Mark stared at her, a crayon clamped in his motionless fist. He seemed afraid to move or even to blink, as if in that second of time she might disappear. The way his mother had. Wes’s throat suddenly threatened to shut down. He rummaged in the drawer for the ice-cream scoop. “Here.” Mark handed Cara a crayon and slid a sheet of paper toward her. “You color.” They sat close together, with her head tilted down toward his son’s just the way Patty had when she drew pictures with Mark. Only then, their two dark-haired heads had matched, underscor- ing the fact they were family. Cara’s reddish-blond hair threw the scene off-kilter, as if warning him he shouldn’t let her into his kids’ lives.
