An Excerpt
The telegram arrived as we were finishing our dinner . I had already planned a stroll in the cool spring evening and considered the intrusion more than slightly annoying . My friend Sherlock Holmes was in high spirits , having recently completed the case of the singing blackbird , and had agreed to accompany me on my evening walk . Any time I could persuade him to take from his usual melancholy pursuits I considered a victory . Of course , the telegram from Scotland Yard requesting his assistance raised his spirits even more .
“ What do you know about the Mayan civilization , Watson ?” he asked and handed me the telegram .
“ Central American , I believe ,” I said as I skimmed the missive requesting his assistance at the Explorations Club where a death had recently occurred .
