PROMOTION By : Barbara Donlon Bradley

This month I am going to step away from being an editor and put on my author hat . Let ’ s talk about promotion . It ’ s something I ’ m trying to get back into . I was working hard at it before my mom moved in and started to need more and more of my help . I had a blog , and used my social media : Facebook , Instagram , belonged to triberr to boost my blog . I had authors visiting my blog and I visited theirs . Anything free I tried . Some worked . Some didn ’ t , but I was getting my name out there .
Things fell by the wayside when I
started caring for my mom . I had four wonderful years with her . Then I grieved . I ’ m still grieving a year later . Now I have to rebuild everything . The problem is I have no idea where to start . It feels a bit overwhelming .
I love this group because I follow the threads . MFRW is my Godsend when it comes to promotion . I learned about Bookbub and I set up a free account . I set up an account with Mailerlite , unfortunately , I couldn ’ t figure it out so it went dormant . I tried Booksweeps but that seems a little too rich for my blood . Then I hired a personal assistant .
I never tried one before because I thought I couldn ’ t afford one . So I did it myself . Or at least tried . Looking back I want to laugh at myself . I had no clue what I was doing back then . My mom left me a little money when she passed so I decided to see if a PA would work for me . I ’ m sure not all PA ’ s are the same but I now have the same one that Kayelle has and I ’ m very happy with what she has done .
She has introduced me to Bookfunnel , put a newsletter together for me , and sends it out bi-weekly . She ’ s helped me with my Instagram account , my Facebook account , and my Twitter accounts . I write under two names which made promoting twice as hard because I needed to do it for both names . She helps me with that as well .
