Ret taking care of me was a fantasy I ’ d had , but mostly I wondered what it would be like to feel safe in his arms , leaning into his wide chest .
Feeling a hand rub the back of my neck , I snapped out of my thoughts , finding Ret ’ s face right in front of mine . “ Always ,” he whispered . “ I mean it .”
Frozen in his soft gaze , I thought he was going to rest our foreheads together . Yet , when he leaned closer , I felt the press of his lips to mine . No fantasy I ’ d ever had of him could have prepared me for this moment .
