An Excerpt
“ I finished my marine biology degree and then went to the coast of Washington ,” Brittany responded . “ For a job . And for … for a guy .” “ And ?” Gary asked . She leaned against the palomino and stared at the stall ’ s wall . “ And … neither worked out . My position was cut last fall due to lack of funding and the guy and I … well , we decided we really weren ’ t meant for each other .” She began brushing the horse again . “ Did you love each other ?” Brittany paused before she answered . Jason had been her first love . She had moved across the country for him . For a job , yes , but if he hadn ’ t lived there , she would not have left her mother and brother , her father ’ s grave , everything she knew . She had moved from the Florida coast to the Washington coast . Who does that unless they ’ re in love ?
“ I loved him , yes ,” she whispered .
