M. S. SPENCER (Cont.)
FOR THE LOVE OF A SPY
BLURB EXCERPT
In an era electric with possibility and peril Maris
Graystone, political writer, and Michael Kinder, CIA
troubleshooter, meet under oddly conventional circum-
stances. Despite the instantaneous sparks, they both
sense there is more to their relationship than physical
attraction.
Their love affair intensifies against the backdrop of
the dramatic world events of 1991—a disintegrating
USSR, Middle East peace talks, and Vietnam’s reemer-
gence on the world stage. Michael appears and disappears
at unpredictable moments, leaving Maris limp and love-
lorn. Looking for safe harbor for both her emotions and
her body, she welcomes the advances of a dashing
French diplomat, Émile de Canalon, who whisks her off
to France.
Will she embrace the luxury and comfort of Émile
and his chateau or the romance of international intrigue
with Michael? Less than ten minutes later, a familiar dark head hove
into view, dressed in a well-cut pinstriped business suit
that set off his powerful shoulders. His tie exactly
matched his eyes, but it was his face—set in a distinctly
bland expression—that astonished her. If she hadn’t al-
ready known those mobile, eloquent features intimately,
she would have walked right past him. Anyone else
would, too, assuming him to be a lobbyist for some trade
union or law firm—one of those empty suits haunting the
restaurants and offices of K Street in the District. He
looked neither to the right nor the left but strode directly
to the counter…She was straining to peer around his
broad back when he turned and looked straight at her.
She couldn’t disappear. She couldn’t run. She had to
brazen it out. Michael said something in a low voice to his
companions and stepped over to her. He didn’t look
bland anymore. In fact, she sincerely hoped that either she
would never see him again or that she would never make
him that angry again. His blue eyes went nearly black, and
he opened his mouth, baring every single one of his beau-
tiful white teeth. Maris took an involuntary step back.
―What the hell are you doing here?‖ he hissed.
