India Baby Mobility Equipment Market Outlook to FY’2022
WHICH ARE THE LARGEST
COMPANIE IN THE SPACE? HOW IS THE MARKET EXPECTED TO
PERFORM IN THE FUTURE?
The growing stage market for baby mobility
equipment is significantly fragmented with
large number of organized and unorganized
players present in the space. Unorganized
players (manufacturers/ traders) are more
regional centric and have larger control in
tier 2 and tier 3 cities while organized
players are more penetrated in metro cities
with balanced mix of concentration of
unorganized players. As of FY’2017, around
~ organized companies are competing with
each other on pan India level on parameters
such as price with features, quality and
brand preference. At the organized level,
players enhance their share in the market by
following hybrid distribution channel with
multiple sales points (EBOs, MBOs, mom
and pop stores and online). Many
unorganized players are also adding
themselves as sellers on the online platforms
to expand their reach beyond the mom n
pop stores. Me n Mom has been the largest
player with a revenue share of around ~% in
the organized space in India during FY’2017.
Me n Moms has been followed by Sun Baby
and Chicco, with both having revenue share
in the range ~% each. Other companies such
as Panda baby products, Bajaj (BSA), Toy
house, R for rabbit, Luvlap (Olympia
Industries), and Graco also have robust
presence in the organized market. The
market for ride-ons has been dominated by
Toyhouse which has accounted for a
revenue share of over ~% in the segment
during FY’2017. Indian baby mobility equipment has been
poised to grow at a faster CAGR of ~% over
the period FY’2017-FY’2022 as compared to
~% over the period FY’2012-FY’2017. The
baby mobility equipment sector has been
anticipated to become more organized as
players such as Chicco, Graco, Me n Moms,
Sunbaby and others enhance their presence
in the market. Organic and Inorganic
expansion plans laid down by Mahindra
Retail will further supplement the growth in
online space and in offline retail space in the
next five years. Focus of players will become
more hybrid in terms of distribution as the
companies will look to penetrate the growing
online space over the coming years. More
private label brands by the online players
similar to Babyhug (Firstcry) and Fab n
Funky (Firstcry) will be launched in order to
generate higher margin. Some consolidation
may also be witnessed in future among the
organized players. Prams/strollers and
walkers will continue to dominate the space
since these two products are considered as
essential requirements by the parents in the
country. Market for baby prams/strollers has
been projected to grow from INR ~ billion in
FY’2017 to INR ~ billion in FY’2022. On the
other hand, share of tri-cycles market will
relatively decline over the period FY’2018-
FY’2022. The trend of online shopping for
baby mobility products is on the rise due to
portfolio of large number of products,
convenience and huge discount offerings.
This has been expected to enhance the share
for online shopping to ~% by the end of
FY’2021
