A brief history of hockey at Maritzburg College
Hockey has only had official sport status at
Maritzburg College since 1974. Since then the
game has grown in stature with College being the
first school in South Africa to lay an artificial
surface on its premises. The school has now
become one of the leading hockey schools in the
country.

when he played against Ireland in Cape Town.
Tyson Dlungwana (2015) earned his first cap in
February 2016 when he played against Germany in
Cape Town in the Summer Series. In 2017, Siya
Nolutshungu became the latest Old Collegian
(2013) to earn his first international cap for SA
against Belgium in Cape Town.
The school has now produced 90 SA Schools Caps
with 81 of these having been earned since 1980.
In the recent dual Summer Series in Cape Town,
four
OCs
represented
SA,
namely
Siya
Nolutshungu, Taine Paton, Tevin Kok and Tyson
Dlungwana. At the end of April, the Mens’ IPT was
held in JHB with the KZN Raiders team lifting the
trophy with OCs Andrew Manson and Kewan
Harries part of that squad. A number of other Old
Boys represented various other provinces during
the tournament.
