PROJECT OVERVIEW
0 50 100 250 m
Urban growth inside the historic city center of Cadiz( Spain) is limited by the ancient walls, built along the centuries in order to protect the city from the unpredictable violence of tje Ocean and pirate attacks, attracted by the great richness which have always distinguished the strategic outpost of the Gaditan Bay.
The need for a new Oceanographic Research Institute offers the possibility to set a new relation between the city and its natural boundary: grafting into the perimeter wall and overlooking the San Sebastian Castle.

CONCEPT
The basic idea is that of a wall set between the City and the Ocean. Turning and folding, this entity generates volumes in which the program is held. The building’ s location repeats at a smaller scale the shape of a bay, a very characteristic feature of the identity of this area.
