Marin Plastics Ban 1 | Page 2

We are active members of the Marin county community and part of the SEA-DISC academy at Sir Francis Drake High School. SEA-DISC is an environmental and social justice program that juniors and seniors have the chance to participate in over the course of two years. We take classes such as AP environmental science, chemistry, history, government, and economics, all in the context of global activism. Our goal is to not only educate ourselves about these issues, but our greater community as well. We do this by creating projects with research, field work, and community education components. We are not just passionate about the environment, we are well versed in its more nuanced issues. We don’t solely focus on global concerns though; we also narrow our scope to local ones as well. For this project we chose to focus on the use of plastic in Marin. The Plastic Issue is meant to showcase the numerous environmental and anthropological impacts of plastic and the ways our forward-thinking community can help reduce them.
