The total number of active listings, whether looking at the overall market or just new construction, remains at historic lows, down by 39 % and 35 % respectively from January 2015. By comparing active listings to total sales during the last 12 months there is currently a 3.9 month supply of inventory on the market, both overall and for newly built homes. We continue to be in a very active market with demand steadily increasing and supply gradually decreasing, creating a shortage of homes in many locations and price ranges. SERVICE IS WHAT COUNTS AT DYER’ S PLUMBING
New to Winston-Salem, but not new to plumbing or the Triad, help me welcome Jim Hubbard, President of Dyer’ s Plumbing. The Dyer family name has been around since 1927. Based out of Eden, NC, Jim recently decided to expand the family business and open a second location in Winston-Salem. Dyer’ s Plumbing works all over NC but it was time to expand their operations with a new hub in Winston Salem.
Dyer’ s Plumbing is family owned and operated and has been since Jim’ s grandfather opened in 1927. Originally the business started as a garage and wrecker service in Eden, NC. In the 1950’ s when they started running plumbing in the city Mr. Dyer saw an opportunity and ran with it. Dyer’ s has been in business for 90 years and is still run by the family. Jim Hubbard is the President and his brother John, who is based in Eden is his partner. Jim told me his mom and dad still work in the office every day.
Dyer’ s specializes in both commercial and residential work. They do everything from service work for home owners to servicing larger industrial accounts such as Duke Energy, UPS and Walmart. They also do contracting work for light commercial all the way up to heavy industrial.
I asked Jim why he thought his family business was still around 90 years later, he said;“ Service, service is what counts. That is our moto and we pride ourselves in offering exceptional service. Quality service is our top priority. If a client is not happy, we are not happy. We do everything possible to make sure the client is 100 % satisfied.”
Not only is Jim the President of Dyer’ s Plumbing he also runs Aqua Man pool service here in Winston-Salem. Aqua Man specializes in liners, covers and regular pool maintenance. With spring time upon us Jim told me now is the time to get your liners replaced. Aqua Man also assists in the opening and maintenance of pools for home owners.
Jim left me with a few plumbing tips for homeowners:
Never flush cotton swabs, cotton balls, hair, facial scrub pads, diapers, sanitary products or similar items down the toilet. These items will not easily dissolve and are responsible for most clogs.
Never put hard-to-grind waste into the disposal( ex., chicken skins, bones, carrots, celery or banana peels)- they will clog the drain.
Don’ t pour fats or cooking oils down the drain— they will harden in the pipes and create clogs.
Make sure that all drains have strainers to prevent hair, soap and debris from clogging the drain lines.
Consider switching to a tankless water heater, it can save you up to 50 % on your power bill each month.
Check the temperature setting on the water heater. It should be set no higher than 120 ° F to prevent scalding and reduce energy use.
