Orange to sell Globecast

Ofcom spectrum boost for satellite connectivity

To meet the growing demand for satellite connectivity services in the

UK, comms regulator Ofcom has decided to make more spectrum available for satellite gateway earth stations.
Satellite communication systems rely on gateway earth stations which enable large volumes of data to be transmitted between Earth and space, and then onwards to the internet or private networks.
In a further boost to satellite connectivity in the UK, Ofcom has decided to make up to 10 GHz of spectrum in the Q / V band available for satellite gateways across most of the UK landmass, predominantly in rural‘ low density’ areas.
This provides extra capacity to support growth in satellite services across the UK and will enable more people and businesses to benefit from improved

Consistent with its objective to promote flexible spectrum sharing, Ofcom has developed proposals to help enable satellite infrastructure in UK towns and cities, while ensuring that safeguards are in place to protect existing spectrum users. Ofcom is now seeking views on proposals set out in its consultation, which closes May 28th 2026.
Following consultation, Ofcom is also announcing changes to improve its NGSO licensing process.
The amended approach includes measures to speed up decision-making timeframes; and reduce the administrative burden on NGSO satellite operators. Ofcom will no longer routinely consult on applications for NGSO gateway licences.
Separately, it has also confirmed that it will extend the
satellite connectivity, such as faster satellite broadband, including in the more remote hard to reach parts of the UK.
Having considered responses to its July 2025 consultation, Ofcom is also proposing to open up access to some of these Q / V band frequencies for GSO( Geostationary Orbit) and N( non) GSO satellite gateways in urban‘ high density’ areas, which cover the six per cent of UK landmass not included in its‘ low density’ area decision.

Disney + signs RTVE content deal
Disney continues to expand its content pacts with European free-to-air broadcasters having signed a deal with RTVE that will see a selection of the Spanish broadcaster’ s titles made available on the
Disney + streaming platform the day after their linear debut.
RTVE titles that will be available on Disney + include thriller series Rojo sobre blanco, and popular cooking show
MasterChef along with the Celebrity
MasterChef spin-off.
This is Disney’ s second similar deal in
Spain, having announced a partnership with Atresmedia in September 2025.
Disney also has deals in place with ITV in the UK, ARD and ZDF in Germany and SIC in Portugal.

Ofcom’ s fee model is designed to promote efficient use of spectrum – encouraging users to think carefully about their spectrum needs, as well as incentivising the highest value uses.
Orange is in the process of selling Globecast to the investment fund Verdoso.
Globecast is Orange’ s media services business, which currently supports thousands of customers – TV channels, rights holders and platform operators – in distributing and broadcasting their audiovisual content worldwide. The company relies on a network of teleports and operations centres.
Thanks to a hybrid infrastructure combining satellite, fibre and IP, and to a range of end-to-end managed services, Globecast enables broadcasters to simplify their operations, control their distribution costs and reach their audiences across all networks, from satellite bouquets to OTT and streaming platforms.
Since its creation 24 years ago, Globecast has anticipated and supported market developments, from the early days of satellite broadcasting to the coverage of major global events such as the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Tour de France and the G7.
The projected acquisition by Verdoso would provide Globecast with a reference shareholder capable of supporting the company in the rollout of its next generation offers and strengthening its position in a structurally shifting market.
Orange’ s employee representative bodies will be consulted with a view to a possible completion of the
transaction by the end of 2026. ​
