There ’ s also an owners ’ quarters that could also be used for employees . The detached restaurant has not been reopened by the Frisks , but could become a popular spot for lake visitors , ATVers and guests at Black Forest Inn and other local resorts due to its location right off Hwy . 385 and the fact that it ’ s 15 miles from the nearest full-service restaurant in either direction .
Once the remodeling process was nearly complete and the redecorating was beginning , they ran into another issue so common during COVID — supply chain issues which made them wait on some materials and furnishings . However , miraculously everything eventually showed up in time for the soft opening in April .
That timing turned out to be perfect as the spring of 2021 was a time when people were “ getting very antsy to start traveling again ” as the Frisks put it .
“ We have been very blessed with two amazing summers ,” said Jodi , “ and it has been the best thing we never thought we ’ d ever do . God has been very good to us and the people who have come through here have been really , really awesome !”
While they had some trepidation about operating a B & B , ( For instance , Jodi said she had to learn how to cook breakfast for the guests ) the Frisks say moving to South Dakota and taking over the inn has been a great experience . “ We have not looked back except to say ‘ Thank you , God ,’” said Jodi . They say friends back in Minnesota warned them the move could produce a culture shock but their response has been to say it was a good one . Their guests have become friends and family and they say it has been encouraging to be able to get to know them and relate on a human level . They even changed the way they did breakfast in order to encourage guests to interact more .
With the Frisks being so happy about the purchase and having found a home in the Black Hills , one might think they would be settled in to stay forever at Black Forest Inn . However , the very force that seemed to compel them to make their pilgrimage from their home state to begin with , they believe is now calling them to pull up stakes again .
They admit they have been a bit “ on the fence ” about selling the inn , but they are also realizing that they really love the challenge of renovating and turning over a business and bringing it up to speed . They are also a little intimidated with the prospect of reopening the restaurant and diving into the business of hosting weddings and events , which they believe has much potential but is “ not at all our area of expertise .” Overriding all these factors , however , is what they believe God is calling them to do , which is to let go of it . If and when the right buyer and offer come along , the Frisks are uncertain what they will dive into next , but given the fact that the Black Hills have become home to them and that they see so much business potential here , it ’ s safe to say they won ’ t be heading back to Rochester anytime soon .
The Black Forest Inn is offered for sale by Faith Lewis Keller Williams Black Hills Realty at a price of $ 1,585,000 .
