“ A few years back we decided Hulett could use a few things the big cities have . Mostly we ’ re proud of the things we don ’ t have – like air pollution , noise , traffic and endless acres of concrete ,” Jim Neiman , Sr . said in a previous newspaper article . “ But we did want a pro-quality golf course and an airport .”
“ When we say , ‘ there ’ s no place like this on earth ,’ we think that ’ s a good thing ,” Jim Neiman Jr . said in the newspaper article . “ The only thing better is being one of the lucky folks who get to live out here .”
The Steakhouse and Saloon opened in July 2019 , with a grand opening and the owners arriving in a horse drawn carriage . Jim Neiman , Sr ., had the first drink at the bar .
While the golf club is private , but the restaurant is open to the public . It is open year-round , with seasonal hours from November to April .
“ Built by the working man , for the working man ,” Jim Neiman , Sr ., says . “ Come as you are .”
Late last year , the the Shotgun Coffee Bar was built , named for the golf club shotgun starter , Mr . Neiman himself .
The ranch the Neimans own is the 77 Ranch , which gives the steakhouse and saloon its name . The golf clubhouse and steakhouse are located in the same building , with the restaurant on one side , the golf club on the other and a large breezeway that connects the two .
The menu depends on the time of year , as the menu is scaled back somewhat in the winter , as the workforce is diminished . In the summertime , work campers are brought in to help run the golf course and work in the restaurant , as there is not quite enough population in Hulett to supply the workers needed for the complex .
In season , one can have virtually any kind of breakfast imaginable . From waffles to breakfast burritos , biscuits and gravy to a breakfast poutine , ( a traditional Canadian dish that has fresh fries with gravy and cheese curds over hash browns or tator tots ), your breakfast itch is sure be scratched .
The lunch options are even more diverse . Among the favorite lunch options is the Bourbon Burger , which has bacon a bourbon sauce and melted swiss cheese topped with crispy onion tangles on a toasted brioche bun with the option of lettuce and tomato .
In season there is a variety of burgers and sandwiches , including a French dip , Reuben , chicken sandwich and traditional fare such as salads and nachos .
Jim Neiman Sr . purchased a historic Red Birch back-bar from the previous owner of the Cowboy Bar in Belle Fourche , SD . Restoration has been completed and it ’ s a beauty ! It is the focal point of 77 Steakhouse & Saloon ! The front bar was built to co-mpliment the back bar and to replicate the original front bar in historical photos .
Jim purchased the bar in 2005 . His daughter Connie and son-in-law Tom Lindmier lovingly refurbished it for use today . The restoration took about a year to complete . Tom , being a historian , has painstaking ly documented the origin of the bar in great detail to be able to provide facts about its origins . Jim stored it in his garage for over 10 years knowing one day he would put it to good use . Instead of letting the bar sit hidden , the Neiman family conceived a plan for making sure Jim would be able to enjoy it in a more public setting . The 77 Steakhouse & Saloon Clubhouse was built to accommodate this historic bar , which is where it sits today , enjoyed by many golfers or anyone passing through .

Did you know ?

Before Prohibition in 1919 , bar patrons could not “ sit ” at a bar to drink . Patrons could stand at a bar , hence the “ Stand-Up Bar ” concept . Patrons could sit at saloon tables , but not the bar . After Prohibition , saloons could have the sit down bars that we know today .
The ‘ Stand-Up ’ cowboy bar is 28 feet long , 12 feet high and the main mirror is 13 feet wide . Two small 3- foot mirrors flank the large center mirror with gargoyles and columns all stained to accent traditional cherry wood shades . The side mirrors are the original mirrors , which are French plated and lined with silver . The main mirror had to be special ordered . The original mirror was said to have been destroyed when a whiskey glass went flying into it , back in the day , at its original location . The Red Birch back bar is a sight to see ! It ’ s considered one of THE best-preserved historic bars in Wyoming , and it ’ s believed many a cowboy bellied up to this bar at some point in history . Seth Bullock was a local rancher and knew Dan Roberts well .
Based on documentation , it is believed that the bar was built by the Chicago firm of Passow and Sons around 1895 . Originally purchased by Daniel Roberts , this bar was likely shipped by rail and wagon from Chicago to Belle Fourche , SD in the late 1890 ' s and installed in his saloon as part of his " Stand-Up " bar .
