Pain management, identification of addiction and the practices of prescribing opioids will be discussed. OSHADontics – Work Place Safety for Dental Offices - Key OSHA regulations are applied in the context of dental practices. This presentation is designed to provide guidance for compliance with OSHA health and safety regulations in dental practices, along with practical insight into how regulatory authorities approach such issues. Instant Update - Getting Up To Speed in Periodontics - This course will focus on four main areas: Promoting Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination in Primary Care and Dental Practices - Participants can expect to gain a better understanding of HPV, the HPV vaccine and effective communication strategies to educate patients and their families about HPV vaccination. n The “semi-surgical” approach Radiation Protection Update - The existing online radiology course has been revised to offer updated information. To Pull or not to Pull - This course will describe the indications and contraindications for performing or referring a patient for apical surgery. With a specific 7 step workup, including a correct history, radiographic and clinical evaluation, the decision to perform an apicoectomy will be weighed against further evaluation, a retreatment option, or extraction and replacement with an implant (immediate or delayed). 28 Antibiotic Stewardship – The course explores the global threat of bacterial resistance to antibiotics; the challenge of discovery of new antibiotics to overcome the threat; the initiative from the Centers for Disease Control for solutions to the problem and the most current information to describe the proper therapeutic use of antibiotics to treat odontogenic infections according to the antibiotic stewardship concept.
