Preparing Students for the Real World at Sugar Valley Rural Charter School
Sugar Valley Rural Charter School is committed to preparing students not only for academic success, but also for meaningful careers beyond graduation. Through the integration of the Mike Rowe WORKS curriculum in the junior Career Readiness class, taught by Mr. Pletcher, the school emphasizes the importance of practical skills, responsibility, and a strong work ethic. This program aligns with the school’ s mission to equip students with the tools they need to succeed in both the workforce and everyday life.
The Mike Rowe WORKS curriculum focuses on real-world expectations that are often overlooked in traditional classrooms. Juniors at Sugar Valley Rural Charter School learn the value of punctuality, accountability, and perseverance, while also developing professional communication and problem-solving skills. Lessons are designed to reflect workplace scenarios, helping students understand what employers expect and how to meet those expectations with confidence and integrity.
A key component of Mr. Pletcher’ s Career Readiness class is the completion of the Mike Rowe WORKS twelve-unit program. Through this structured curriculum, students successfully complete all required units and earn certificates that recognize their dedication to learning essential workplace skills. These certificates serve as evidence of students’ commitment to personal growth, responsibility, and readiness for future careers.
Through the Mike Rowe WORKS curriculum, Sugar Valley Rural Charter School empowers juniors to take ownership of their education and their future. The Career Readiness class reinforces the belief that hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude are essential qualities for long-term success. By combining academic learning with real-world preparation, the school ensures that students graduate ready to face the challenges of adulthood with confidence and purpose.
