The Power of Progress at Jersey Shore Area High School
At the start of the school year, we shared a data report highlighting progress made since being identified as a TSI( Targeted School Improvement) School, based on 22 / 23 data. Everyone at the high school recognized that the report did not reflect the tremendous contributions of the students, staff, and community, and in true Bulldog fashion, we accepted the challenge. As our motto states, we set out determined to Learn, Grow, and Succeed.
As data continues to come in, we are living up to our motto. We are very proud of what has been accomplished thus far. As noted, changes in our system resulted in the lowest freshmen failure rate in at least a decade. Our Keystone Proficiency rates have increased across all three testing areas. Of particular note, the increase in Algebra Proficiency( from 32.6 % in 22 / 23 to 60 % in 24 / 25) was the largest growth in the region and near the top in all of PA.
We also just learned that our graduation rate is higher than it’ s been in years, going from 84.7 % to 91 %. Those numbers are on par with the rest of the region and we require more credits than most schools in the area.
There is still much work to be done, but we’ re not shying away from the challenge. Every Tuesday, a report goes out to make sure students and families are aware of grade status and support available. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, all teachers are available during SHORE period to help students meet their academic goals. We have also noticed record numbers at our After School Program on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Students and teachers are working together to make sure we continue to rise to the challenge.
As we head into the scheduling season, we’ re confident that we have systems in place to make sure all students are prepared for whatever comes next. We were encouraged by the record number of 8th grade families that attended our Moving On Up presentation.
Understandably, we’ re excited about what is happening up here on the hill. None of this success is possible without incredible effort from the students, the staff, families and the community. Kudos to all of you for your part in making sure it is always a great day to be a Bulldog!
