have enough food, water, and any medications they may need for at least two weeks. Pet preparedness checklist: A 14-day supply of pet food and water Medications, flea / tick prevention, and other care items Leashes, carriers, or crates for evacuation Familiar toys or comfort items to ease anxiety
Veterinary records in case evacuation is necessary
6. Additional considerations
In addition to the essentials, here are a few other things to consider as you prepare your household for a disaster:
CCC Activity Center: In prolonged power outages the Activity Center has a generator that will allow you to have access to a warm, lit location. You can charge devices and refrigerate medicines if needed.
Sanitation supplies: Toilet paper, wet wipes, hand sanitizers, and trash bags can help when water is scarce.
Important documents: Keep copies of IDs, insurance information, medical records, and financial documents in a waterproof container.
Cash: In case of power outages, ATMs and credit card machines may be down. Keep a small amount of cash on hand, including some smaller bills for those who may not be able to make change.
Stay informed and ready
Being“ 14 days ready” doesn’ t require an overwhelming amount of time or money. Start with the basics and gradually build up your emergency supply kit. Regularly check expiration dates and be sure to stay updated on local disaster plans, evacuation routes, and community resources.
Remember, it’ s better to be over-prepared than caught off guard. With a little effort, you can ensure that you are not only ready to survive a disaster but also able to thrive.

A true story of love, crime and a dangerous obsession
“ The Art Thief” by Michael Finkel is our selection for March 11. From the library summary:“ For centuries, works of art have been stolen in countless ways from all over the world, but no one has been quite as successful at it as the master thief Stéphane Breitwieser. Carrying out more than two hundred heists over nearly ten years--in museums and cathedrals all over Europe--Breitwieser, along with his girlfriend who worked as his lookout, stole more than three hundred objects, until it all fell apart in spectacular fashion.” From the book jacket:“ This is a riveting story of art, crime, love, and an insatiable hunger to possess beauty at any cost.”
We meet the second Tuesday of each month in the Wilson Room at the Activity Center from 1-2:30 p. m. Feel free to join our convivial group at any time.
