Think about the story – Don ’ t just place the cake on a stand and snap a photo . Bring some life into the shot ! Add a slice on a plate , melted candles in holders , or even a tablecloth with a bit of movement . I tend to raid discount stores for simple party favours and plates that help tell the story ( and the best part ? I get to reuse them for future shoots !)
Shoot from different angles – I always make sure to get a variety of photo angles to really showcase the cake and my skills ! Close-up shots capture all the texture and detail , while wider shots really show off the cake ’ s full presence .
Maximize the content – One shoot can give me a whole library of content ! I typically create a list of everything I want to capture , including ; behind-the-scenes clips , detailed shots and styled images . Videos of the setup process or revealing sneak peeks are great ways to repurpose content and means I can keep showcasing the same cake while making each post feel new .
To really sum it all up , taking the time to intentionally create cakes for social media and style my photos isn ’ t just about aesthetics - it ’ s about attracting the right clients , showcasing my skills and creating excitement around my work . So take the extra time to style your photos with intention - you might be surprised by how much your customers love it and how it helps attract the right ones !
