NSPE E-Week Banquet & Exhibition – February 2025

The 2025 Engineer’ s Week Banquet occurred on Thursday, Feb. 20 at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord, and was well attended by ASCE members. This conference is held annually to bring together individuals in engineering fields throughout New Hampshire to celebrate and discuss the great things engineers can accomplish for the betterment of society. The day consists of technical / educational presentations followed by an awards banquet to honor the Young Engineer of the Year and the Engineer of the Year.
This year’ s educational sessions consisted of four presentations aimed at communicating some recent developments in the industry. Rick McAlister, President of the Crash Lab, provided insight on the effect of changing technology, data analysis, and investigative methodologies on crash reconstruction, and ultimately on the safety of infrastructure. Dr. Jo Sias, Professor and current Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of New Hampshire, discussed sustainable and resilient pavement, the effect of climate change on the future of pavement design, and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration on the evolution of pavement design. Christopher Cockshaw, Vice President and Renewable Generation Practice Leader for North and South America at Mott MacDonald, presented information from Orsted’ s South Fork Wind Project, how 4-D modeling was used in the project, and the effect 4-D modeling had on the progression and outcome of the project. Finally, Colin O’ Hearn, President of Kinetic Demolition & Engineering, LLC( KDE), discussed the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, KDE’ s role in the demolition of some remaining structures, and how engineering expertise was used to successfully complete the necessary demolition.

During the banquet, Corey Dietrich( pictured left) and Dr. Raymond Cook( pictured right) were recognized as Young Engineer of the Year and Engineer of the Year, respectively. Corey was named the 2025 New Hampshire Young Engineer of the Year for his professional achievements, dedication to the engineering field, and commitment to mentorship. A Project Engineer at Greenman-Pedersen, Inc., he specializes in stormwater systems, highways, and transportation infrastructure while also guiding younger engineers in their careers. Dr. Raymond A. Cook, PhD, PE, was named the 2025 New Hampshire Engineer of the Year for his outstanding contributions to engineering, education, and community service over his 31 years as a professor at UNH, and beyond. He has mentored

thousands of students and played a key role in structural engineering research and curriculum development, maintaining a strong, contagious passion for structural engineering.
David Macaulay, Author and Professor at Dartmouth College, delivered a presentation about“ Seeing Things: a Visual Introduction to Engineering” based on his in-progress book. This presentation was a visual portrayal of how visual learning in engineering fosters curiosity and deeper understanding by encouraging observation and sketching as tools for problem-solving. He highlighted how technological innovations, problem-solving strategies, and real-world applications shape the future of civil engineering, infrastructure, and construction.
