BAKE YOUR BEST YEAR YET - WHY TEACHING SHOULD BE ON YOUR 2024 BUCKET LIST ! Do you know what I ' d love for you to add to your list of big-and-amazing 2024 goals this year ? Teaching . Yep , I ' m suggesting you give some thought to sharing your cake decorating skills . And no , I ’ m not just saying this because I happen to be a cake teacher ( ok , maybe just a tiny bit ).
Now before you dismiss the idea completely , let ’ s address those intrusive thoughts creeping into your head right now ( then we ’ ll dive into the perks ).
“ I ’ m not any good ” > Interesting , your popularity & countless compliments you ’ ve received says otherwise ! Let ’ s silence that inner critic .
“ I wouldn ’ t know what to teach .” > Teach what you ’ re good at - you know those techniques like the back of your hand .
“ I don ’ t think I ’ d be any good at it .” > Practice makes perfect ! A little bit of planning can go a long way to making sure your class runs smoothly .
“ I don ’ t have the space for it .” > There ’ s always a perfect space waiting - whether it ’ s your local community hall , church kitchen or cosy cafe .
“ I ’ m not that good compared to other decorators in town .” > Remember , your students are ( likely ) beginners or hobbyists eager to learn . You ’ ll be the most knowledgeable person in the room , serving as a guide to further their artistic expression . It ’ s not really about ‘ you ’ - it ’ s about them ( your students ) and the tools you share to inspire another generation of cake decorating enthusiasts .
Now that we ’ ve lightly squashed some of those self-doubts , let me talk to you about the perks of teaching , which comes directly from my own experience .
Firstly , there ’ s this unexplainable joy that comes from imparting your passion and knowledge . It ' s immensely gratifying to see your students ’ faces light up as they master a new technique or create a stunning cake they never thought was possible . It ’ s an addictive feeling seeing your student ‘ win ’.
