In November of 2006 Elizabeth Krause and her two young children , Philip , twelve , and Nicole , eight , walked into Portofino Restaurant and never looked back . Portofino started in 1996 and became popular when the stars from Meet Joe Black attended regularly . The original family sold the restaurant in 2004 , but it wasn ' t a fit for the new owners and that ’ s when Elizabeth stepped in and decided to make it her own . She kept the Portofino name because of the deep roots it has with the community . She added her name so everyone would know someone new was in town . Since 2006 she has developed a professional team to serve her regulars and new guests .
