After graduating Suffolk Law School in 1991 , Dena Paolino moved back to her home state of Rhode Island where she took a one-year clerkship with the R . I . Superior Court . A few months into her job , Dena was searching for an outlet . A workout where she could get in shape while letting off workday stress . That ’ s when she stumbled upon a grungy basement boxing gym on Providence ’ s Federal Hill . Within minutes of wrapping her hands and hitting her first heavy bag , Dena was hooked ! If boxing could make her feel as good as this , she thought , then it could do it for women everywhere .
For the next twenty years , Dena pursued her passion at boxing gyms throughout the city . Yet her female friends refused to join her in the sweaty , maledominate gyms . Since there were no pretty , female boxing gyms , the mother of three decided to create one herself .
In 2009 , with no business experience or investor money , the first STRIKING BEAUTIES opened and a revolutionary fitness brand for women was born ! In 2012 STRIKING BEAUTIES became the only women ’ s boxing gym franchise company in the world .

By 2022 , Dena built her company team to include some of the biggest icons in boxing and set the goal to have 250 Striking Beauties gyms by the end of 2028 . With the mission of “ placing a glove of empowerment on every woman and girl ,” Dena set out to make the lifestyle benefits of boxing accessible to all , through a welcoming , life-affirming gym experience and her 501 ( c )( 3 ) The Striking Beauties & Beasts Project , Inc ., designed to improve the lives of those with physical and mental health conditions through boxing .
