Improvement Plans Hard at Work
The Every Student Succeeds Act ( ESSA ) was created in 2015 for our nation ’ s schools , replacing The No Child Left Behind Act . The ESSA ensures that all students from preschool to postsecondary have access to a world-class education , regardless of income level , race , physical or mental ability and other historical marginalization , that will prepare them for college , career and life . When schools have one or more student groups in these categories at or below the level of the Comprehensive Support and Improvement , an Additional Targeted Support and Improvement plan is put in place by the Pennsylvania Department of Education . Schools can only be exited from the program when the identified low-performing student groups show sufficient growth and no longer meet the criteria for identification for two consecutive years . SVRCS was entered into the A-TSI program in 2018 .
Once SVRCS was designated as an A-TSI school , a team of school administrators , teachers , and parents began to work collaboratively to develop a plan of action for improvement . The plan begins with professional development with teachers and staff , then monitors student engagement and analyzes outcomes . The plan was constantly reviewed and updated reporting to the Pennsylvania Department of Education over the course of the last few years . Since being placed in the A-TSI program , SVRCS , like all schools , has had their obstacles with Covid-19 and virtual learning . They continued , however , to work through this and help the students be successful .
SVRCS CEO , Tracie Kennedy , is pleased to announce that she received a letter from PDE in February 2023 , stating , “ Due to your school team ’ s focus on continuous improvement and use of the evidence-based strategies in its school improvement plan , I am pleased to inform you that Sugar Valley Rural CS has successfully exited A-TSI status .”
Congratulations to the entire SVRCS administration , staff , students , and community on coming together and working so hard to make our students successful !
