March 2022 ASCE-NH Newsletter | Page 3

PRESIDENT ’ S MESSAGE

Looking back at last month ’ s President ’ s Message , I would like to take a victory lap for scaring away the cold weather ; hopefully this lap doesn ’ t end up being a jinx , as at this moment it appears that spring has decided to creep-up early throughout New England in 2022 ! Writing this on March 18 th , the temperature will be nearing 70- degrees today . Throughout my weekly travels I have started to see some motorcycles on the roads and notice that outdoor dining / patio spaces have been setup and even populated . Some landscape crews have begun showing up in neighborhoods , starting spring clean-ups and pruning . Even MLB decided to solve their labor issues and get Spring Training started .

I am especially excited for spring this year . My wife and I welcomed our first child at the end of January , so being able to get outside and enjoy the fresh air with her will be a treat . Walks throughout the neighborhood and visiting with friends and family on the back deck will be happily welcomed . And never one to forget our 10-year-old Manchester Terrier , he thrives in the warmer weather as he acts like a puppy again . I hope everyone reading this is as excited as me to enjoy the change of season and again , fingers crossed that this isn ’ t a jinx .

ASCE-NH has continued to host our Monthly Lunch & Learn Webinars , which are an excellent opportunity for attendees to receive 1-PDH credit . Thank you to February ’ s presenters , Theresa Andrejack-Loux and Ben Cote of Aero Aggregates , and all who attended ; we had just under 100 attendees ! Continue to watch your email or check the Newsletter for promotional information and registration . March ’ s Webinar is on Tuesday the 22 nd , and this Newsletter contains the registration for April .

March also marked the return of the ASCE-NH Younger Member Group Happy Hour . Our new Younger Member Chair , Ben Brock of Collins Engineers , coordinated the event that took place at Portsmouth Brewery . You will be able to read more about this within the Younger Member Corner , as well as learn more about April ’ s outing . To our Younger Members , spread the word that Happy Hour has returned and make sure to attend these fantastic networking opportunities !

And because it is important to mention I again will close with this , please remember that we are always looking to bolster the ASCE-NH leadership team . If you have ever considered serving on the Board , getting more involved , or volunteering at any of our annual events ( YM Group , Golf Outing , Engineers Day Conference , etc .), please don ’ t hesitate to reach out . There are always opportunities / ways to participate ; like Past-President Hugh Scott always says – “ Teamwork makes the dream work .”

Be safe and I wish you all the best !!

Aaron Cheever , P . E . ASCE-NH President
