March Covers Through the Years
TRENDS AT 50
MARCH 1981
Going back in time and looking at old Trends is an exercise in discovery , wonder and at times peculiarity . Finding Gene Hackman and Barbra Streisand on an old cover was certainly unexpected , but it revealed a unique special event . The private showing of the movie “ All Night Long ” was a member only event at a classic Denver iconic theater , The Continental . The movie was a bust , but the film elevated Streisand to the highest paid actress at the time with a $ 4M payout !
MARCH 1991
Uncle Sam is synonymous with the US government in wartime and recruiting members to the Army . The March 1991 cover announced a feature article dealing with the “ Desert Storm ” war in the middle east . The article outlined the legal aspects of handling residents who were military personnel leaving for duty . The article was authored by Joe Bax , General Counsel for the Houston Apartment Association .
MARCH / APRIL 2004
The Spring 1994 issue celebrated the Association ’ s 25th Anniversary / Birthday . Featuring champagne , balloons , and a birthday cake . True to AAMD form , the moment was celebrated with a party , with a powerhouse of past Presidents : Jim Murphy , Dale McCombs , Dennis Malone , Tom Karaffa , David Phifer , Steve Ira and Harold Zeller , all joining in to blow out 25 candles on the cake . A feature article reiterated the importance of AAMD and its mission , highlighting the milestone of having 900 members .
MARCH 2006
Since 2000 a multitude of March covers featured the enormously successful Maintenance Olympics . The 2006 cover honors the maintenance profession with a ‘ roll up your sleeves ’ image of toughness and uncompromising hard work . Diversity of tasks within the maintenance duties are represented in the variety of tools in the toolbelt . Born in Denver , the AAMD Maintenance event which celebrates the Maintenance teams has been duplicated through NAA ’ s Maintenance Mania in over 75 affiliates across the nation .
