CAS News
With fingers crossed , the Costa Animal Society ( CAS ) hopes to return to the level of our pre-Covid efforts in the not too distant future with the continuing progress of the vaccination campaign . Until then , however , we are still limited without our usual fundraising events and a loss of some volunteers either due to justifiable fears about being out and about and / or relocation due to Brexit , etc .
For the time being most of our fund-raising is done through the shop and congratulations to Susie who won the Valentine ’ s Day raffle basket ( pictured right ). There is still time to enter our Promise Raffle which will be drawn on March 8 . There are six prizes being offered ranging from a haircut to dome gardening with the winners choosing their prizes between them .
In this difficult year we would like to extend a special thanks to Adrian at Fitzgeralds Bar and Restaurant in Nerja for all of his support . If you are a local business that could provide sponsorship in the form of vouchers or donated items to our raffles we would love to hear from you .
To contact CAS you can call us on 653 557 237 , visit the shop , or see us online at www . casnerja . webs . com or on our Facebook page \ casnerja . We are also now on Instagram at : cats _ dogs29780 , and you can find us on Twitter by searching for Costa Animal Society Nerja I ’ m told . Personally , I still prefer to lick envelopes , but thank you to everyone who has donated to CAS through Paypal or by bank transfers . Our dogs and cats give you a big Paws Up !
Featured Dog of the Month : Juno
Juno ( pictured right ) is an old guy who is still looking for a forever home . He was rescued from the campo earlier in the year with a chronically abscessed tooth that had created an open wound through his right cheek . CAS took him to their vet who prescribed antibiotics after removing the infected molar and Juno was placed in kennels to recover his health in comfort .
However , the infection turned out to be antibiotic resistant and after several
treatments over the next few months it refused to heal . Therefore , the vet decided to take cultures and send them to the lab to pinpoint which medicine would target the microbes causing the problem .
The final course of specialised antibiotics did the trick and Juno ’ s face is now healing well and he has now been vaccinated , chipped and castrated . Juno has an independent personality as he has spent most of his life living on his own in the campo . However , he does like human company and gets along with other non-aggressive dogs , and he is pretty much indifferent to cats . CAS thinks he is going on 13 years old , but he is a resilient little dog with a strong constitution and we hope he can live out his days in a nice warm home .
If you would like to meet one of the animals under CAS ’ s care and are looking to adopt or are willing to foster a pet please contact Kurt and Laura at 95 252 1426 or Fiona through the CAS website www . casnerja . webs . com , or Facebook page \ casnerja . To find out more about helping CAS contact May via the CAS shop on 653 557 237 .
CAS Cat News
CAS is as equally concerned about the welfare of the homeless cat population as about the dogs we rescue and rehome . Regarding cats our primary focus is to capture feral cats and have them sterilized so six new kittens don ’ t arrive a few weeks later . We are lucky to have a few private volunteers who aid us in these efforts , often at their own expense . We are always in need of foster homes to
