Hello and welcome to the March edition of Soltalk . I wish I could be talking about the upcoming Carnaval and Easter processions but sadly both seem to have been put on hold this year while we all wait for vaccinations to solve the international problem of Covid . Still I believe an exhibition has been set up in the sala a few doors from Nerja Correos , showing off past Carnaval outfits which at least is an attempt to keep up spirits !
On a positive note the mayor of Nerja , José Alberto Armijo , has welcomed the decrease in the incidence rate of coronavirus contagion in the town , which stood at 89.9 per 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks . He praised the exemplary behaviour of the residents of Nerja and Maro in this third wave , which allowed this municipality to be a reference in the province , since it was the only one on the Costa del Sol that was below the incidence of 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants , thus avoiding the perimeter closure . “ It doesn ’ t mean we have to relax or let our guard down . The battle is not overcome , and as the health authorities warn , we must be cautious about the new strains and variants of the virus . We must not forget that many Spaniards continue to die every day ” said the mayor .
So it ’ s good to know that obeying the lockdown yielded results and who knows we may soon be looking at getting back to normal and even having visitors from around the world once more !
Meanwhile we hope you enjoy the March issue of Soltalk , and stay safe and well !
