February has been another mixed bag for Club Nerja Rugby . After recording one win and one defeat in January they had the finished February with a similar record .
On 7th February they travelled to play Marbella . After 8 minutes they were 0- 10 down after conceding two tries . But towards the end of the first 30 minutes Nerja reduced the deficit through a try by Ricardo Carratu Romero . Richy converted his own try to reduce the gap to 3 points .
These were to be Nerja ’ s only points of the game . Two more tries and a conversion gave the home side a 22-7 lead going into the second half . Injuries to key players in the second half contributed to the visitor ’ s woes and Marbella scored a further 9 tries in their 67-7 points win .
The following Saturday Nerja made the short journey to Rincon de la Victoria to take on CR Victoriano in a game postponed from January . Once again Nerja conceded and early try after 4 minutes and it was not until the 29th minute that they were able to tie the game through a try by Javi Martin Venegas . The rest of the half remained close and the halftime score was 5-5 .
The third quarter of the game remained scoreless until Jose Medina Cuesta broke the deadlock with a try which Javi converted . This spurred the Nerja side to add another two tries within the space of the next eight minutes through Tomas Caraffo Zanetta and Richy . Javi added a conversion to take the visitor ’ s tally to 24 points . Victoriano scored a try 7 minutes before the end but Nerja held on for the victory .
These results leave CNR in third place in the five-team Central Division . Their next game is at home to CR Aguilas Mijas on Sunday 7th March . Consult the CNR Facebook page to confirm the kick off time and whether or not COVID restrictions will be eased to allow spectators .
