Rebecca Duval made her first appearance in the State Series since a 2-year hiatus , below are some of her thoughts and observations on what has changed since she was last competing :
“ This was my first event in two years , and to say I had fun would be an understatement ! Before I took a break , I was competing in the Amateur class . For the 2021 season , I decided to take it down a notch and get comfortable being back on the bike and compete in the Women ' s class , which typically rides the Novice line . It ’ s no secret that most of our trials competitors are men , but here in Texas we have a handful of women that have an Enduro or Motocross background that have a very strong drive for friendly competition . I am hoping that throughout this season we can create a strong Women ’ s class to show young girls that we can have just as much fun as the boys !
There are so many kids getting started in Rookie and Novice that are incredible riders and have absolutely no fear . Unfortunately , for me and the other woman riders , we have quite a few years of experience on these kids and we understand the consequences of crashing , so we take dabs instead . The Texas trials community is hoping to get more women on board to just ride and have fun , to show their kids and
husbands that they do not have to be spectators if they do not want to be . Most of us women are stuck in the skill level between the fearless and energized kids and the adult men , so we have our work cut out for us . It would be great to see other women come out and compete in the Texas State Series and become a part of our Texas trials family .”
The first two rounds of the 2021 Texas State Series were a success . Traditionally , the next two rounds would be at Emma Long State Park in Austin , TX , but due to Covid , it will not be happening this year . The next few rounds are slated to be at Red River Cycle Trails in Muenster , TX on March 13th and 14th . We are very grateful for the opportunities we ’ ve had to still be able to ride , and are very hopeful for the rest of the parks to open back up .
