mainly men . Though in 2021 I see this is changing , more women are riding and this makes me feel happy inside . There is something to be said about women camaraderie .
I currently ride a 2006 Montesa Repsol 260cc . I also ride my husband Kevin ’ s bike at times ; a 2017 Montesa Repsol 260cc . I like both bikes , but the 2017 bike turns on a dime .
As a woman who likes to ride motorcycles ; it just ROCKS . When I ride off-road motorcycles , it ’ s just me , the bike and the terrain . I love the headspace . It is such a challenge and I love challenging myself . I like to figure out when to throttle , clutch , brake , work on wheel placement and timing . I think as women we have an advantage of using our finesse and good listening skills .
I enjoy riding with other women . We laugh , get to see the most beautiful scenery , encourage each other and push our physical limits at the same time . When I tell people I ride trials , sometimes I get this blank stare and then the statement “ isn ’ t that dangerous ?” I just smile and think , would you say that to a man ? I ’ m used to it . I respond to them by simply explaining the sport of trials and why I ride . After explaining what Trials is about , they often ask when the next event is going to be .
I am happy to say that I think in 2021 , off-road motorcycle riding and women are becoming more and more common . And I ’ m not getting as many blank stares .
If someone is interested in getting into the trials scene , I would highly recommend it . I would tell them what a fun sport Trials is and the people who ride Trials are one of the nicest people you will ever meet . I have been a COTA ( Columbia Observed Trials Association ) member my whole trials career . I have held many positions on the COTA board . We welcome new riders along with their friends and family . The club will help support them along their trials journey .
I would also mention how much fun our COTA campouts are , sharing fun stories from lifetimes of riding , how we watch out for each other and get to experience some of the most beautiful scenery together . And if they wanted to ride I would also add ,
“ If I can do it , you can do it too !
