This month ’ s “ Now On The Tee ” Student Spotlight is :
MaryThayer
Mary is a teacher and coach ’ s dream student ! When her golf journey started three years ago in our Adult Tee It Up class , her passion for golf and excitement to learn was infectious . She worked so hard in every class , asked the best questions and tirelessly practiced everything we did in class the next day . I remember the day her new set of clubs was delivered to her house . She came by the course that morning , beaming with excitement to tell me today was the day her new set was arriving . She was so excited and then right after telling me , said , “ Oh , Coach ! I have to get home right away to make sure I ’ m home when they arrive .” Mary is now a proud member of Dubsdread Golf Course and a regular playing member of the DWGA ( Dubsdread Women ’ s Golf Association ). She helps every year with the City Amateur hosted at Dubsdread and can regularly be seen coming out to watch junior , high school and men ’ s & women ’ s professional events being played at Dubsdread . I ’ m so proud to call her a true golfer and know how much being a golfer means to her . Mary - thank you for always reminding me , by seeing you at the course every day , why I fell in love with our great game !

When did you start playing golf ? I enrolled in the Dubsdread Tee It Up Adult Class on March 17 , 2018 .
What or who got you interested in golf ? My son has always been an avid golfer and I wanted to learn the game so I could play golf with him !
What is your favorite course ? Dubsdread , of course !
What is your current focus in your golf game ( what are you trying to improve right now )? Perfecting a 60-80-yard approach shot .
What do you love about golf ? Everything ( that ’ s what you want to hear ). Secretly , I am obsessed with golf clothes !
Favorite club in your bag ? Club of the week is my brand-new Big Bertha 7 Hybrid !
Which kind of shot makes you the most nervous or is the most difficult on the course ? Chip shot over a sand trap onto the green with water staring at me !
What ’ s your favorite color ? Kelly Green ! Let ’ s Go Irish !
What ’ s your favorite food ? Pretzels .
Who is your favorite PGA or LPGA player ? Fred Couples !
When you ’ re not playing or practicing golf , what is your favorite thing to do ? Baking muffins for all my favorite people at Dubsdread and doing 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles .
What are your golfing goals ? I would love to learn and practice from each tee box . Playing the different distances makes me use every club in my bag !
What is something ( s ) you did in the Learning Center you really enjoyed ? I loved when Steve taught us the 3-6-9 ladder putting drill . Putting is my favorite part of the game . Also , when we learned how to putt with an 8 iron from off the green . Also , a secret clothing tip from Steve : vests are your friend !
