Finally , let me say the one thing I tell every caddy parent : Be a caddie , not a parent for the next 9 or 18 holes and all will go well .”
Junior Players :
For the junior players out there , I think there are a couple of important things for you to learn and understand when mom or dad is your caddie .
• Too often I see junior players on the course , and something goes wrong . A putt doesn ’ t go in , it ’ s a bad shot or a bad hole . The junior looks at their parent caddie and clearly blames them for what went wrong . Remember , you are the player and you the player make all the final decisions before taking a shot or playing a hole . Then it ’ s only the player who hits all the shots and plays all the holes . Don ’ t blame your caddie or even yourself , just assess and move on to the next shot or holes . Work together as a team and appreciate the help and support your caddie is providing .
• The last thing each junior must learn , understand and demonstrate is something I was taught early on in my golf career . It will serve you well in life and in your golfing journey . Respect the game and the game will respect you back . This includes your caddie ( mom or dad )!
