Book of the Month: The Like Switch
I am officially hooked on ‘body language’.
For this
month, the book that I listened to on audible (great
app, you should check it out), in addition the 5 hard
copy books I read, was the ‘Like Switch’. This book was
written by another former FBI agent and it dealt with
the topic of relationships. The body language stuff was
cool but what I found the most fascinating with the
friendship equation, or shall I say the variables of the
friendship equation: proximity, duration, intensity and
frequency.
I will not go into depth about the equation here but I
did like it so much that I am writing 5 pages about it for the ULYIS
newsletter (that’s the paid subscription newsletter I have been
working on).
So, if you aren’t a subscriber to that, I would
definitely recommend picking up this book to see what got me really
excited.
Besides, who couldn’t use some more positive friends in
their life?
The Best Visual that I Use
A couple of years ago while reading a few of Dr. David Hawkins books,
one particular quote stuck with me. It was this idea of ‘letting go of
the rope’. Actually, I am not even sure if he mentioned that in the
book but I do know I came out of the book with that visual in my
mind. Any time that I feel tension in life with myself or another
person, I close my eyes and picture the thing or person tugging on a
rope that I too, am holding. I then picture myself simply dropping the
rope. It is a choice to hold onto that tension. If the other person or
thing wants to continue holding onto their end, that’s fine. Being a
constant state of tug of war with anxiety and tension is incredibly
draining both physically and mentally.
When I shared this analogy with a close friend and client during a
recent Mind Map session, he took it to heart and even shared it with
his wife. He sent me this screen shot of her cubicle at work, which I
just thought was the best thing ever because it is real world application and so simple. We all need
