morning, March 1, 2017, in hospice care in Norwich, Vt., with loving family at her side. She was born on Oct. 16, 1928 in Brighton, Vt., to the late Wilfred and Rosalie( Chicoine) Laperle. Along with her husband Philip, Claire made a fulfilling life for herself and her family in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. To her children she leaves a love of learning, the importance of independent thinking, and the value of family above all else. To all who knew her, she leaves a legacy of caring and kindness.
Claire is survived by her six children, Elaine( Gary) Pinckney of Williston, Julie Smith of Thetford Center, Susan( Skip) Verchot of North Troy, Janet( Dave) Anderson of East Haven, Conn., Philip Fauteux Jr. of Groveton, and Pamela Fauteux of Norton, Mass. She also leaves six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy: David and Michael Pinckney, Wesley Smith, Claire Anderson, Alison and Elizabeth Dufault, and Katie and Kevin Verchot. She is additionally survived by her sister, Denise Pariseau of West Stewartstown, a wonderful companion in her later years, and many, many nieces and nephews who she loved and whose company she treasured.
In addition to her husband and parents, Claire was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Conrad, Gerard, Laurent, Louis, and Pauline( Rancourt).
In recent years, when words failed her, Claire captured the hearts of all who met her with her warm and accepting smile. Her generous spirit shone through even as her ability to communicate failed her.
The family would like to give special thanks to the three wonderful women who were her companions and caretakers in the last years of her life – Francine Champagne, Diane Guay, and Claire Perry. Their care and love for Claire provided her with a wonderful quality of life.

MICHAEL ALDRICH
LANCASTER – Michael Aldrich, 61, of Water Street, died Wednesday evening, March 1, 2017 at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, after a long illness.
Mike was born in Lancaster on Nov. 9, 1955, the son of Glenn Aldrich and Gail( Merrow) Page. He was raised in Jefferson and resided most of his life there and in Lancaster. He was a graduate of White Mountain Regional High School.
For 10 years, Mike was employed at Campbell Envelope in North Stratford and later, for a time, at the Mill in Groveton. Most of his life he has worked as an equipment operator, truck driver and woodsman. He was
employed for a time with Gorham Sand and Gravel and Columbia Sand and Gravel. He also worked for Tilcon and Central Paving. In his free time he enjoyed many outdoor activities, particularly hunting and fishing.
Surviving family members include two children, Jason M. Aldrich and his wife Julie of Lancaster, Kimberly Aldrich and fiancée Jesse Baker of Wayland, Missouri; his mother Gail of Claremont; a brother Stephen Page and his wife Mary of Claremont; two sisters Diana Capone and her husband Rick of Everett, Mass., Jean Aldrich of Arizona; two grandchildren, Khloe Aldrich and Alexis Aiken; and close aunts and uncles Dick Merrow, John and Sherry Merrow and Carly Merrow. He was predeceased by his father Glenn; his grandparents Howard and Elsie Merrow; his step-father Ralph Page and his aunt Janice Merrow Rogers.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Andre J. Gagnon
ANDRE J. GAGNON
BEECHER FALLS, Vt.– Andre J. Gagnon, 69, of Beecher Falls, passed away on Thursday afternoon, March 2, 2017, at the Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton, Vt., after many months of declining health.
Andre was born in East Hereford, Que., on Nov. 26, 1947, a son to the late Conrad and Mechtilde( Grenier) Gagnon. He was 1970 graduate of the Our Lady of Grace Academy in Colebrook.
Andre was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army Reserve and Vermont National Guard for more than 33 years, and he was also a member of the Beecher Falls Volunteer Fire Department since 1976, the year he also began working at Ethan Allen as a truck driver. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an avid 4- wheeler, and he loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He also had an impressive collection of electric trains.
Andre was a communicant of St. Albert’ s Catholic Church and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Roxanne( Chaloux) Gagnon of Beecher Falls; his three children, Nicolas and Luc Gagnon, and Nathalie Hurley, all of Concord; a sister, Nicole Foley of Connecticut; and three grandchildren.
Calling hours were on Monday, March 6, 2017, from 3 to 6 p. m. at the Jenkins and Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, March 7, at 11 a. m. at St. Albert’ s Roman Catholic Church in West Stewartstown with The Rev. Craig Cheney as celebrant. A graveside committal service with military honors at St. Albert’ s Cemetery will occur in the spring of 2017, of which notice will be given.

Ellsworth James Shallow
ELLSWORTH JAMES SHALLOW
PITTSBURG – Ellsworth James“ Jim” Shallow, 91, of Pittsburg, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 1.
Jim was born on Jan. 28, 1926 in Colebrook, the son of Almon and Bell Shallow.
Jim was the loving husband of 62 years of Geneva( Covell) Shallow. Father of Dan Shallow( Judith) of Gilman, Dale Shallow( Monica McGovern) of Raymond, Kathy Chadwick of Oxford, Conn. and Micheline Ariola( Bob) of Morris, Conn. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews will remember him with love and affection along with his sister Bertina Jondro of Colebrook. He was pre-deceased by his sisters Marian, Connie, Mable, Anne and his brother Leonard( Bud)
Jim was a devoted Jehovah’ s Witness and a member of the Colebrook Congregation.
Prior to returning to New Hampshire, he worked for the Amity School System in Orange and Woodbridge, Conn. At the time of his retirement he was the Head of Custodians and Maintenance.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his extended family, sitting in his favorite chair looking out over Lake Francis and seeing what birds and wildlife may pass by. He was especially fond of a good old corny joke.
A memorial talk will be held Saturday, March 11 at 11 a. m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’ s Witnesses, 295A Carleton Hill Rd., Colebrook.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
Maurice L. Wheeler
MAURICE L. WHEELER
BURLINGTON, Vt.– Maurice L. Wheeler, 81, of Berlin, passed away on Friday March 3, 2017 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vt. following a courageous fight for life surrounded by and connected to his adoring family.
He was born in Berlin on June 12, 1935 the son of Albert and Mildred( Murphy) Wheeler and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from St. Patrick’ s High School where he was captain of the basketball team. Maurice was the Public Works Director in Berlin for many years, retiring in 1998 and he was also a practicing land surveyor in N. H. He was a member of Good Shepherd Parish. He loved gardening, tending to his apple trees and picking wild blueberries on the family’ s ancestral farm in West Milan where he also enjoyed tinkering with his tractor and cutting the fields. He enjoyed making bread and his famous ginger snap’ s especially with a grandchild helping him mix the dough while standing on a chair beside him. Maurice had a great appreciation and love for the outdoors. He spent countless hours walking through the North Country woods and spending time at camp with family and good friends. In his lifetime, Maurice was also an enthusiastic runner who ran two marathons as well as two Mt. Washington road races among many other running events. He enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren
