Interestingly, TRB has a long history of promising innovation. Its founder, George Newell, codeveloped the revolutionary adhesive, Redux, a product originally put to use in fighter jets during World War II but which has withstood time and continues to be used to today. The company has also collaborated with innovative prototype projects including the inception of the Lightening GT, an all- electric car designed with energy efficiency in mind. The chassis makes use of TRB's lightweight aluminium composites, guaranteeing the super car weighs little over 1 and a half tonnes and yet still maintains the strength and durability of a commercial vehicle. Head of Engineering at Lightening Cars, John Paterson has only positives to say on the experience of the partnership. As he explains, "At all levels TRB Lightweight Structures supported Lightning Cars, from their management teams help with our potential investor visits, to the CAD engineers working so well with our team that they seem to be almost an extension of our design department!" www.trbls.com MANUFACTURING AND ENGINEERING MAGAZINE 27
