The positioners are mainlyinstalled on the side-yoke or upper top casing of the pneumatic actuator for linear-sliding-
stem control valves and at or near the end-of-shaft for rotary control valves. In either cases,the valve positioner is
associated mechanically to the valve stem or valve shaft so that their position can be compared with the position
dictated by the controller. Mechanical feedback then links back to the positioner to confirm that the process controller
tells the positioner to modify position, also the feedback linkage addresses the positioner to confirm that a change in
the valve position stem has occurred to give a sense of magnitude of the change in position. Positioners should be
installed if the valve is intended for use in a control application.
